Dompu, November 29, 2025 — PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) commemorated Indonesia Tree Planting Day by distributing 250 avocado tree seedlings in Nangadoro Hamlet, Hu’u Village, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB). This activity, carried out together with the government and local residents, is part of the company’s greening program, which is currently still in the mining exploration stage.
Indonesia Tree Planting Day was first held on November 28, 2007, and became an annual agenda based on Presidential Decree Number 24 of 2008. This activity is a national effort to raise public awareness about the importance of reforestation and environmental preservation. STM is one of the parties actively participating in supporting this effort.
The 2025 commemoration of Indonesia Tree Planting Day around STM’s work area began at the yard of Al-Abrar Mosque, Nangadoro Hamlet. The activity was attended by sub-district and village officials, representatives of the Forest Management Unit (BPKH) Topaso of the NTB Environmental and Forestry Service (DLHK), as well as local residents. Meanwhile, STM was represented by Community Relations Manager Ulya Defretes, Principal Government Relations Zulaikha, and the Sustainability team.
Ulya Defretes stated that this activity is not merely an annual ceremony, but part of an integrated and sustainable environmental preservation effort. “Tree distributing and planting on Indonesia Tree Planting Day is expected to provide life balance. Trees can retain water, prevent erosion, preserve the environment, and contribute positively to nature. Specifically, avocado plants can provide economic benefits for residents in the future,” she said.
In the company’s latest Sustainability Report, STM recorded reclamation of 11.51 hectares of land throughout 2024, or 43.3 percent higher than the annual target. Reclamation efforts continue in areas that have been completed for STM’s copper exploration activities, known as the Hu’u Project. Planning and reclamation processes are regularly reported by STM to the government.
To support sustainable environmental management, STM has a nursery covering 0.44 hectares with a capacity of 30,000 plant seedlings. These seedlings are dominated by pioneer plants that accelerate natural succession and support the growth of local plant communities. The nursery facility is also supported by renewable energy from solar panels, as a manifestation of STM’s commitment to reducing emissions for a sustainable environment.

Hu’u Sub-district Head, Muhammad Iswan, expressed support for various reforestation activities initiated by STM. “Planting trees is the same as protecting the earth. Tree roots will prevent natural disasters. Let us plant these trees to protect and preserve our environment,” he said.
In addition to tree planting activities that are routinely carried out, the company also regularly distributes seedlings to residents to expand green cover in strategic areas, including gardens and settlements. This distribution is usually carried out together with the Village Participation Program (PPD), as well as on other major days related to environmental preservation.
STM also regularly monitors the condition of forests around its exploration area, in collaboration with independent and accredited parties. To support globally standardized environmental management programs, STM has also obtained ISO 14001:2015 certification, even though it has not yet entered the production stage.
On this commemoration of Indonesia Tree Planting Day, STM’s Sustainability team also invited all STM employees and partners to participate in the Twibbon Challenge. This activity carried the hashtags #NationalTreePlantingDay2025 and #MadaTanamPohonMadaJagaBumi, intended to raise awareness of environmental preservation efforts through the digital sphere.
