Sumbawa Timur Geothermal
Reliable Power from Nature
Geothermal Explorations
The Hu'u Project location not only has mineral resources but also geothermal energy potential. PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) is working to develop this potential with a Self-Use scheme through the establishment of PT Sumbawa Timur Geothermal (STG).
STG was established on December 6, 2024, as a geothermal company aimed at supporting STM’s future mining operations.
The geothermal potential in the STM Contract of Work area was first identified through integrated geoscience surveys and sub-surface temperature measurements from mineral exploration drilling.
STM sees the proximity of the geothermal system to its mineral resources not as a limitation, but as added value and a strategic advantage—an opportunity to develop a world-class copper mining operation powered by renewable energy.
Energy Potential
The Hu’u Daha Geothermal Working Area (WKP) is estimated to have an energy potential of up to 69 MWe (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia, 2023). It comprises three potential areas-Pili, Wadubura, and Limea—all interconnected within a single geothermal system.
Our Journey
2018–2022
STM has been assigned the Preliminary Survey and Exploration (PSPE) for Hu’u Daha by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia. Under this assignment, STM has carried out a series of activities, including geological surveys, geochemical and geophysical surveys, integrated geoscience evaluations, exploration well drilling, and measurements of temperature, pressure, and well injectivity index.
2023
STM submitted the Final Report of the Preliminary Survey and Exploration (PSPE) results to the Director of Geothermal at the Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The report was accepted, and the PSPE was declared complete.
2024
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) announced a limited tender for the Hu’u Daha Geothermal Working Area (WKP). STM submitted its interest in the tender, demonstrating its commitment to realizing a world-class copper mining operation powered by renewable energy.
After completing a series of limited tender processes, STM was designated as the winner based on the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Number 199.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2024 regarding the Winner of the Geothermal Working Area Tender in the Hu’u Daha Region, Dompu Regency and Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province.
Sumbawa Timur Geothermal (STG) was then established as the company that will carry out advanced exploration programs to increase confidence in the feasibility of power generation and as the entity that will hold the Geothermal Permit (IPB).
2025
STG was declared to have fulfilled all the requirements for the Geothermal Permit (IPB) and was officially granted the permit by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board.
Sustainable Energy
Geothermal energy is an exceptional renewable energy source due to its stable availability, environmental friendliness, low emissions, and independence from weather conditions, making it a reliable solution to support sustainable energy needs.
STG is ready to manage geothermal energy with best practices to support STM’s future sustainable mining operations and contribute in the green energy transition.
