Jakarta, June 26, 2025 — PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM), a copper exploration company holding a 7th Generation Contract of Work (CoW), held an audience with the Press Council to express its support for the principle of responsible press freedom. STM sought guidance from the Press Council on how to build communication with the press community in accordance with prevailing laws and ethical codes. Additionally, STM aligned its media development plans in its operational area with the program orientations of the Press Council.
The meeting, held at the Press Council Building in Central Jakarta, was attended by Vice Chairperson of the Press Council and Chair of the Inter-Institutional and Foreign Relations Commission, Totok Suryanto, along with Abdul Manan, Chair of the Legal and Legislation Commission. Representing STM was Principal Communications Cindy Elza, accompanied by several members of her team.
Vice Chairperson Totok Suryanto welcomed STM’s initiative to support the Press Council in fulfilling its mandate. “At the Press Council, we continuously encourage the media to fulfill its role as a public watchdog while upholding journalistic principles and ethics. Media verification is indeed important as an indicator of professionalism, but more crucially, all journalistic products must be based on the journalistic code of ethics,” he explained during the session.
STM’s Principal Communications Officer Cindy Elza expressed her appreciation for the warm reception by the Press Council. “This audience not only gave us the opportunity to build rapport with the new members of the Press Council but also reinforced our commitment to supporting better and more responsible journalistic practices,” said Cindy.
Cindy added that journalistic work can influence public opinion and attitudes. Therefore, sound journalistic practices that adhere to laws and ethical standards must be supported. “We are very concerned about how unverified issues can create negative perceptions about the industry. That is why we believe in the importance of constructive partnerships between industry and the media,” she stated.
In recent years, STM has actively supported the development of quality journalism in its working area in Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province, through various programs such as writing and photography training, as well as scientific seminars, particularly related to mineral exploration. STM collaborates with journalists, experts, and reputable organizations in carrying out these programs.
