Jakarta, June 12, 2025 — PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) has once again earned national-level recognition in community development and empowerment, this time at the 2025 TOP CSR Awards. The copper exploration company, holder of a 7th Generation Contract of Work (CoW), received two accolades: the 4-Star category award and the TOP Leader on CSR Commitment award.
The 4-Star category award acknowledges STM’s achievement of an “Very Good” rating for its systems, policies, and implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs that support sustainable business growth. The TOP Leader on CSR Commitment award was presented to STM’s President Director, Bede Evans, in recognition of his strong commitment to building robust systems, good governance, and successful CSR implementation within the company.
To receive these awards, STM first underwent a rigorous evaluation process that included documentation submission, presentations, and a series of assessments by a panel of judges. The panel consisted of academic experts and industry practitioners from a range of organizations, including universities, CSR consultants, media, and industry players. Based on their comprehensive evaluation, the judges declared STM worthy of receiving both awards.
STM’s flagship CSR programs include the Village Participation Program (PPD), Education Quality Improvement Program (EQUIP), merit-based scholarships, MSME development, organic farming, stunting prevention, and basic literacy programs. The 2025 TOP CSR Awards jury highlighted that these initiatives, strongly supported by the company’s leadership, contribute significantly to the Asta Cita and the 17 Priority Programs of the 2024–2029 Merah Putih Cabinet.
The theme of this year’s award was “CSR for Sustainable Business Growth and Asta Cita Government Programs.” According to M. Lutfi Handayani, M.M., M.B.A., Chief Organizer of the 2025 TOP CSR Awards and Editor-in-Chief of Top Business magazine, the theme aims to encourage various stakeholders to jointly support the government’s programs.
“We encourage CSR implementation in companies to align with their business growth strategies so that it supports long-term sustainability. In addition, we hope that CSR programs can make real contributions to national development, especially those aligned with the Asta Cita priority programs,” said Lutfi during the award ceremony held in Jakarta on Wednesday, (11/6).
Lutfi also congratulated STM on its achievement in winning the 4-Star category and the TOP Leader on CSR Commitment award. “The accomplishment of PT Sumbawa Timur Mining is remarkable. Receiving the 4-Star rating shows that the company’s CSR programs are well-aligned with its business strategy,” he said. He added that the company has also adopted the principles of ISO 26000 as a guideline for carrying out its social responsibility efforts.
Ulya Defretes, STM’s Community Relations Manager—whose department oversees community development and empowerment programs—expressed her gratitude to the organizers of the 2025 TOP CSR Awards for their trust in STM. “This award further motivates us to continue making a meaningful impact on the development and empowerment of communities around our operational area in Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province. We are committed to growing together with the community,” she said.
According to Ulya, STM’s community empowerment programs reached more than 10,960 direct beneficiaries throughout 2024. These beneficiaries were served through several program pillars: economic development, health, education, and infrastructure. “We are thankful to the community and company partners who have been involved in all of our programs. Without their support, these initiatives would not have been successfully implemented,” she added.
The 2025 TOP CSR Awards further affirm STM’s strong commitment to community development and empowerment throughout its exploration journey. Just six months ago, STM also received the Gold Award at the Indonesian SDGs Awards (ISDA) for its EQUIP program, and another Gold Award at the Indonesian CSR Awards (ICA) for its merit-based college scholarship program. At the same time, STM was also named “Most Committed Company in Community Engagement and Development” by the Corporate Forum for CSR Development (CFCD).
